Our privacy policy

This document supports GS1 Digital Link trials in the UK. GS1 Digital Link is a data standard. The rollout of the app will be subject to ongoing review and improvement. The app provides links to web-hosted content that a producer wants you to see having scanned a barcode that is encoded using the GS1 Digital Link standard.

This is the privacy notice for the GS1 UK app T-K-1.

Introduction

An app is a programme that you have on your phone to help you do something.  This privacy notice relates to the rollout of a mobile application (app) developed to illustrate how the GS1 Digital Link standard can be used. The app is part of the GS1 UK Innovation Toolkit, overseen by GS1 UK.

The app helps GS1 UK to demonstrate the value of GS1 standards. The app does not use your personal information. No one will know who you are or where you are. No one will know your name or address.

The app works by using the camera on your phone to read the information encoded within a barcode. The captured information is used to obtain web links that the producer of the barcode wants you to see.

Getting started

When you first open the app you will see a ‘Get Started’ button. Simply click on the button and use the finder window to scan a barcode. If you decide you no longer want to use the app, you can delete it at any time. If you have any questions you can email jason.hale@gs1uk.org or visit www.gs1uk.org to learn more about GS1 and our standards.

What data the App uses

No personal information is being stored by the App on your phone. The app does not use personal data and there is no data stored centrally or shared anywhere else, that could directly identify you. When you first use the app there will be an instruction about granting permission to use the phones camera. Access to the camera is needed to allow the app to function. The camera will allow you to scan a barcode.
